Yoga is Magic! Why Yoga Is For Everyone, At Every Age

Let me reassure you, you don’t need to be super flexible, limber, young, or athletic to do yoga. A completely common misconception, but not true. Yoga is the perfect way to strengthen, tone, and heal your body, creating a better, more comfortable life for you in both the short and long term. The reason why my methodology combines yoga and rehabilitative mobility work is that both are very accessible for every level of skill. 

Yoga doesn’t take any special skills or knowledge, just a willingness to move your body and a commitment to working toward improved mobility. If you’re young, but feel out of shape or unflexible – I can assure you, that doesn’t matter. I have helped over 125,000 clients and students overcome strength and mobility issues with progressive flows to relieve pain and stiffness.

As people age, there tends to be a very real risk of “use it or lose it” when it comes to muscle. Sarcopenia, or muscle loss due to aging, can affect overall mobility and strength. With more muscle mass and more strength comes better mobility and greater comfort. Muscle loss can be hard on joints, creating more stiffness and resulting in less mobility over time.

This is why something accessible, gentle, and beginner-friendly is useful for those looking to gain increased mobility and strength even later in life! Starting yoga later in life is honestly manageable at any age; there are so many modifications and progressions that I employ in all my courses and trainings to be sure that everyone, no matter their skill set, is able to learn and practice safely.

5 Reasons You Need HIIT Training

HIIT is…what exactly?

High intensity interval training, of course! And yes, it has the potential to maximize the time you spend working out in a very, very real way. Plus, it is easy to do  – pretty much anywhere and everywhere – making it a sustainable exercise routine for anyone. Bodyweight exercises, bursts of cardio, and dynamic stretching in a HIIT workout create a quick boost in your heart rate and energy output while providing the results you want to see from your dedicated hustle!

Stimulates fat loss, maintains muscle: Losing weight might be one of your goals, but having muscle melt away is probably not. You want to stay tight and toned. But keeping your muscular strength in place while also losing weight can sometimes be a challenge. 

This is one of the great things about HIIT – you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other – no trade-off involved. Whereas certain exercises, such as running every single day, may cause some muscle groups to shrink – burning calories, but also burning muscle – HIIT doesn’t present the same risk. Your heart rate and caloric burn will increase, but HIIT training is more successful in maintaining muscle while minimizing fat, especially in those more dangerous fat storage areas around your organs. 

High caloric burn: The interval training and variety of exercises involved in even just 20-30 minutes of HIIT training gets your heart rate going and increases the number of calories that your body is burning. Typically, as you build your strength, these workouts can become faster-paced, with little to no rest time. All of this helps you maintain your caloric burn and may also help prevent plateaus in weight loss and muscle building. 

Beneficial for heart health: Getting some diversity in your heart rate is actually great for your cardiovascular system! Elevating your heart rate during exercise can have long term benefits in lowering your resting heart rate and blood pressure over time. The duration and range of intensity in HIIT workouts has been proven to be more effective in increasing cardiovascular strength when compared to high endurance intensity training alone. 

Increases metabolism: Research shows that with HIIT, our bodies may resort more quickly to burning fat, as opposed to carbs, in the body while also increasing metabolism. The diversity of body weight and cardio in HIIT workouts boosts metabolic rates for a longer period of time post-workout, meaning that you’re benefiting from burning more calories throughout your whole day. 

It’s like getting the benefits of 2 hours in the gym in just a 20 minutes session. 

Convenient: HIIT workouts and exercises can be done anytime, anywhere. Using just bodyweight you can complete a short, but powerful HIIT workout that will maximize calories burned while maintaining strength and muscle gain.

Stick With It: How to Actually Achieve Your New Year Goals

Welcome to 2020! Anyone else feeling some new decade, new attitude vibes? Just me? It can’t be!

Well, congratulations to you – you arrived here in 2020 with your health and I’m sure you are ready to make amazing things happen in 2020 for your wellbeing and mobility. Luckily, you are in the right spot!

Whatever it is that you want to accomplish and whatever it is that you want your life to look like, I am here for it. I morphed my career into something I am extremely, extremely passionate about – helping people live pain-free, more comfortable lives through body-saving yoga and mobility techniques.

My wish for you this new year is better mobility, better health, and more fun! Sometimes though, the buzz around the new year, the pressure you place on yourself to achieve insane goals, can honestly make January stressful AF. I want you to know that you can seek joy, accomplish your goals, and be a happier, healthier you without stressing yourself out this month.

Pick One Thing
Don’t try to do multiple things. Please, please, please! ?? You will be exhausted. Pick one thing and focus on that for 30 full days. Trying to exercise, drink green tea, eat healthy, meal prep, do an hour of meditation, listen to 5 podcasts, read a book, learn a language, and groom your cat each and every day is madness. You will tire yourself out almost immediately, I can assure you.

Choose what you want to focus on improving, and chase it. Trying to multitask and implement a bunch of new habits all at once isn’t sustainable. Pick your thing, commit to it for 30 days, and enjoy the results you see from your brand new habit!

Keep It Tidy
I’m not suggesting that you clean your place meticulously every single day, but sometimes clutter has a way of making you feel more frazzled or overwhelmed than is necessary. Do your best to keep your spaces organized through the week, which will free up more time and energy to focus on your goal and even spend some extra time on very necessary and well-deserved self-care!

Stay Engaged
Forming new habits always works a little better if you are able to stay engaged. I’ve never felt motivated to stick with something if I find myself super bored, so I know you might find it challenging too! If you can learn something new that helps you with your wellness journey, that will keep it interesting for 30 days and beyond!
